Japanese is the official language, but there are lots of signs in English, especially in the cities.
Japan has seasons. Through humid, hot summers and cold, snowy winters, Japan is picturesque and has a ton to do no matter what time of year.
You can find food from super cheap sushi to extremely high-end restaurants; drinks from $1 konbini cans to world class cocktail bars; and activities like free hikes to inclusive onsens or ski resorts. (Fun fact: Japan is one of the only Asian countries with a real snow sports culture so you'll find great skiing on real mountains.)
Transit is excellent - both the inner city subway systems and the country-wide high speed rails are well-signed and easy-to-use.
